A dental injury resulting in a completely lost tooth (avulsed tooth) can be a very traumatic event. But quick reaction will determine whether you can save the tooth or are needing to replace it completely!
The attached infographic is a very good reminder of what to do in the event of #dentaltrauma
All of the injuries shown here do require the attention of the dentist; however, only an avulsion injury (when the tooth is knocked out completely) is a true dental emergency that requires you to be seen by the dentist IMMEDIATELY.
Broken or loose teeth, are not as serious and the dentist can see you later over the next few days.
At North Delta Dental, we make time during our dental office hours to be available for dental injuries and if in a true dental emergency we ARE available after hours if needed.
Just remember if the tooth has come out completely, PICK, LICK AND STICK
1. PICK it up off the ground holding the sides of the crown of the tooth (ie. Don’t touch the root)
2. Give it a LICK to remove any debris
3. STICK it back into the gums
Alternatively, if you are not comfortable with this method, place the tooth in a cup of milk.
