ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS MY TWO FRONT TEETH!

From about age six to early teens, is a common time kids can injure their new adult front teeth.

While the rest of their face is still growing, their adult front teeth will initially be proportionally larger. Depending on their eruption and alignment, some kids’ teeth will even stick out; putting them at further risk from injury from a fall or impact.

For this reason, it is important to wear a sportsguard during any sort of activity that could involve a fall or impact, whether it be obvious sports like Hockey or Martial Arts, but even more subdued activities like biking, horseback riding or baseball.

Unfortunately for this young chap, he tripped and fell while playing tag at school. Fortunately, he only chipped his tooth and we were able to restore it with a composite restoration. However, due to the trauma, we will need to continue to monitor the health of the nerve of this tooth at his regular dental examinations. It may take years, but a nerve of a tooth can die off from this sort of trauma and can eventually lead to infection.

Whether is be simple or more complicated dental trauma, Dr. Calvin Tham and his North Delta Dental team are always ready to help care and restore that injured smile!
