Choosing A Mouthwash

Choosing a mouthwash will depend on your specific oral health needs. Here are some factors to consider:

  1. Determine the primary reason for using mouthwash – for fresh breath, cavity prevention, or gum health?
  2. Ingredients: 
    • Look for mouthwash with fluoride if you want to prevent cavities. 
    • For gum health, consider an antimicrobial mouthwash 
  3. Alcohol content: Decide if you prefer an alcohol-free mouthwash, which can be gentler on sensitive mouths.  If you already have a dry mouth, we recommend avoiding mouth rinses that contain alcohol as they can cause even more dry mouth
  4. Taste and flavor: Choose a flavor you enjoy to make regular use more pleasant.
  5. CDA Seal: Look for the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) Validated Seal, indicating the product’s effectiveness (See link below)
